About two brothers:
Africa Cycling is the brainchild of René and Anton van Veldhuijzen, two enterprising brothers with a shared passion for sports.
René (1964) has cycled the world, on both coasts of the United States, Australia 8000 km, the entire length of New Zealand and, of course, in Africa. His professional life has also focused upon sport: he worked for 15 years a sports leader in a juvenile prison, and thereafter as an instructor on cruise ships, managing their fitness departments.
As guide and tour manager of Africa Cycling, Rene fulfills his dream of turning his passion for cycling into his profession and can share his knowledge of Africa with participants who are eager for an active, extraordinary, “outside the box” vacation.
Anton (1959) is active in running, cycling and mountaineering. He conquered both Europe’s Mont Blanc and Cotopaxi in Ecuador (almost 6000 meters in height!). Professionally, he has combined a specialization in acute care (including 11 years of trauma helicopter experience) with care education. With 17 years of experience as an independent businessman, specializing in training acute care to nurses and doctors, Anton is a master in training and management.
Although occasionally joining the party, Anton generally functions as business manager, coordinating efforts from the company’s nerve center in the Netherlands.
Traveling is in our blood. Although we have visited many countries, Africa holds a special place for us. We look forward to sharing our enthusiasm and knowledge with fellow adventure seekers.
Jaco loves traveling, particularly to tropical destinations. His background in technical studies facilitated his interest in building websites. In addition, he has long-term experience in sales and project management.
Together they form Africa Cycling: dedicated to providing tailor-made active vacations with a twist.
Africa Cycling’s mission is to provide their clients with an unforgettable encounter with the authentic nature and culture of Kenya, from the colorful villages of the Masai Mara to the lush green tea plantations. Along the road and at lakes we encounter "friendly wildlife" such as giraffes, zebras, impalas, hippos, flamingos. We safely observe the "big-five" from 4x4 vehicles in game reserves.
Africa Cycling aims to provide an active but carefree tour, tailored to the needs of the participants. The tour-master cycles together with the group and a safety car following at a short distance, providing aid to the cyclists whenever necessary. All accommodations are carefully selected to provide the maximum amount of comfort after a long day's touring and all meals are provided.
